Canoe Paddle

Craft your own beautiful canoe paddle

  • 150 US dollars
  • 507 East Shiawassee Street

Service Description

Living in a state surrounded by lakes, you don't want to be stranded up a creek without a paddle. In this day-long class, you will make and shape your very own cedar canoe paddle that is beautiful enough to just hang on the wall. Students will learn how to select the strongest part of a board, glue up boards, draw the pattern, and cut out the final paddle using a bandsaw. We will then shape the handle and body with a spokeshave and draw knife, two of the most satisfying woodworking tools out there. To wrap up the day we will apply the waterproof and safe finish to complete your beautiful new paddle. I will have several different paddle size templets ready so you can choose the right size for your boating needs. Makes an awesome handmade gift for someone you know who loves boating. We will use a mix of power and hand tools in this class. No experience is required! This class is wheelchair accessible. Sitting workbenches available upon request. Deaf and hard-of-hearing friendly. Interpreter available upon request.
